A chat room is basically a place on a website where multiple people – ranging from a few to several hundred or more – talk in real-time to one another using text and / or voice and / or webcam video.
You can find many chat rooms online. Probably the most well-known is IRC (Internet Relay Chat) which has thousands of different channels all about a different subject.
